Logan County really is perfectly positioned in the Center of it all, with Chestnut as the The Geographical Center of Illinois. The town erected a statue, sign, and park to commemorate it. Both Beason and Chestnut are two historical towns and small farming communities only 6 miles apart. Like most towns in Logan County, they were created as a result of the railroad being built through the state and both were founded in 1872.
