The Allen Chapel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church was built in 1880 and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. Lincoln's African Methodist Episcopal congregation which was originally formed in 1868. It also served as a community center for African American's in Lincoln prior to the Civil Rights Movement. The building has remained largely unaltered since 1880.
