This octagonal-shaped library is one of only a few in Illinois. It was built in 1908 and was added to the National Register of Historical Places in December of 1979. The buiding's eight sides are all symmetrical, except for the front. It has remained in continuous operation as a library since it opened.

The clock tower is a 40-foot stone tower that houses a 1909 Seth Thomas clock. The clock is wound by hand every 8 days.
